Mr and Mrs Smith...(But more rad than the movie)

As many of you know, we've had a whirlwind summer wedding season...

So today we wanted to feature another one of our awesome wedding couples and give a shout out to them for being so much fun to work with.

How could you not have fun when the day includes:
-A morning 5km run (on the ladies side)...and no Gary did not participate...tsk tsk.
-A morning of story telling and beer drinking (on the guys side)
-Vows filled with laughs and tears...but more laughs than anything
-A little bit of pool and rounds of drinks
-And one of the most epic first dances we've seen yet...the bride was flipped 3 times...THREE TIMES!!!

Well played Mr and Mrs Smith...well played...

Congratulations on one amazing wedding! Stoked we could be a part of it...

Fact: GBP loves music...

We therefore, also love it when we get to work with musicians.

Not only are they talented, but they also just so happen to often come to shoots with a ton of creative ideas on what exactly they're looking for...this helps us work with them in order to plan a concept for a shoot that can really showcase the persona that they bring to the stage when they perform.

Whether it's head shots, album work, or promo packages, we work with artists to really make sure we understand the emotion/style that they want to portray through their images.  Taking an audio based form of art and attempting to convert that into a strictly visual form can be challenging...which is exactly why we like it!  Photography is actually a huge part of how a band markets themselves.  We love it when we get to be a part of developing a 'brand' for them that they can cary forward throughout the various aspects of marketing and promotion that they will need.

We also like working with musicians because they tend to be open to us taking them to strange locations for shoots (such as this land-o-old things), AND we get to listen to their albums early...not a bad deal!

So here's a few sample shots from a recent shoot we did with local artist Declan O'Donovan.

And on that note, keep your ears open for his first full-length album being released this August!  We got a little sneak peak and it's gonna be sweet!

Runaway Bride AND Groom...

As we're deep in the midst of a crazy busy wedding season, we thought it would be appropriate to update you on one of our most recent, and most memorable shoots....

Words cannot express how stoked we were when we got an email a few weeks ago from a couple who were packing up their truck and heading up north to elope on their way to Inuvik! They liked our style of work, and wanted to know if they could book with us on a not-yet-decided date and time during their travels...We absolutely loved these guy's sense of adventure, and so made sure to find a time during their brief stay in Whitehorse to make it happen...

So one late Friday night in June, we headed up to the top of grey mountain to be part of a beautiful, simple, and adventurous ceremony.  They had 4 friends/witnesses, including a fiddle player who got the call to come perform 20 min before the ceremony started, and with a bouquet of 'borrowed' flowers one of the witnesses grabbed on the way up the hill, they stood at the top of grey mountain and said their vows.

It was so great to be part of such a unique experience for these guys.  It was so apparent how happy they were to just be on the road together, starting their adventure off with such an incredible day.

We want to thank you Sally and Adam for having us be a part of it-it was refreshing and touching to be a part of such an intimate event, and we wish you all the best in the many adventures we're sure you'll share over the years! (We also hope there were no flat tires on your drive to Inuvik...)  ;)

Back to business...

OK, so after a week off (for the first time in months!) we're back to business, and so it only felt right to start it off with a little blog post dedicated to a part of photography that helps get our clients business as well! Head shots...

Head shots are photos individuals get for a variety of reasons, but normally, whether they are artists, or a business/corporate professional, head shots are used to promote and advertise our clients and their services.

We've had the pleasure of working with a variety of people on these sessions, and every time, it's a great experience for us as everyone wants something specific to their own personal style.  Artists may be trying to capture the persona and look that they portray as they perform, where as many corporate professionals often want a more standard, 'everyday' look.  Actors and theatre professionals often want a variety of styles so that they can go to agencies and show the range of 'looks' that they are able to portray, from serious/brooding, to goofy and lighthearted...it all depends on what the shots will be used for...

So needless to say, with that type of variety, it's always a shoot we enjoy at GBP as it keeps us on our toes.
